Can dual camera video blur the background like Portrait mode?
Short answer: no. Neither camera in a dual recording blurs its background the way Portrait mode does, and that is not a setting hiding somewhere in the app — it is a consequence of what a multi-camera session is built to deliver, which is two live video streams, not a depth map for either one.
The reason is worth knowing because it points straight at the workaround. Real background blur needs information a simultaneous front-and-back recording never has, but a good amount of the visual separation people actually want is available through lens choice, distance and framing — no depth data required.
What Portrait mode’s blur is actually made of
A blurred background is not a filter applied evenly across the image. It is built from a depth map — a reading of how far away every part of the scene is — that lets the camera tell the subject from the background and blur only the second one, more heavily the further back it goes. Building that map is itself a capture task: the phone has to gather distance information alongside the ordinary image, using sensors and a processing pipeline set up specifically for it.
That is why Portrait mode has always been a mode, not a filter you can bolt onto any shot after the fact. It changes what the phone is capturing in the first place, not just how the result is processed.
Why a multi-camera session does not produce one
Running the front and back cameras at once already spends what a multi-camera session has to spend. Every camera in the session has to run a format that explicitly supports multi-cam, and the combined cost of both streams has to fit inside one hardware budget — which is also why the session cannot use convenience presets and why resolution tops out lower than a single camera could reach on its own. Depth capture is not one of the streams that budget was built to carry alongside two full cameras; it is a separate job with its own sensors and its own processing, normally run when a single camera has the budget to itself.

What actually separates a subject from a background, no depth map needed
Distance does most of the real work. The further your background is from your subject, the more naturally out of focus it tends to fall even without any processing, simply because of how a lens forms an image. Putting three extra steps between you and the wall behind you does more for separation than any filter will.
Lens choice matters too. A telephoto lens compresses distance and reads as more separated than a wide lens covering the same subject from the same spot — where your iPhone has one, it is the better pick for a shot where the background is meant to fade rather than compete. An ultra-wide lens does the opposite: it keeps everything, including the background, sharp and prominent.
Contrast does the rest. A subject lit a stop or two brighter than the wall behind them, or wearing a color the background does not have, reads as the clear subject even in a frame that is sharp edge to edge. This is the trick photographers used long before background blur was something a phone could compute.
What an editor can add afterward, and what it cannot
Once a dual recording is a finished file, a video editor can layer effects on top of it the same way it can layer a new color grade on top of a filter that was already baked in while recording — including a blur or a vignette applied to the whole frame. What it cannot do is a selective blur that knows where your face ends and the background begins, because that requires the depth reading that was never captured. A uniform blur over the whole picture blurs the subject along with everything else.
Manually masking a subject frame by frame in a heavier editor is technically possible and is real, patient work — the kind reserved for a handful of frames in a film, not for an everyday vlog or reaction clip.

Does either camera produce a blurred background on its own?
